The WJP Rule of Law Index 2022
November, 2022
The World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index is the world's leading source for original rule of law data.
WJP is an independent, multidisciplinary organization working to create knowledge, build awareness, and stimulate action to advance the rule of law worldwide.
WJP has released the Index annually since 2009, and this year's edition covers 140 countries and jurisdictions around the world, including Serbia.
Findings are organized across eight factors: Constraints on Government Powers, Absence of Corruption, Open Government, Fundamental Rights, Order and Security, Regulatory Enforcement, Civil Justice, and Criminal Justice.
For the fifth year in a row, the rule of law has declined in most countries, with 61% of countries declining over the past year. More than 4.4 billion people live in countries where the rule of law weakened in the past year.
The data featured in this report comes from global surveys completed by more than 154,000 households and 3,600 legal practitioners and experts, who measured how the rule of law is experienced and perceived in practical, everyday situations.
This is the eighth consecutive engagement of Dr. Nebojsa Stanković, from www.stankovicandparters.com, in the implementation of the Rule of Law Index project, who has been on the list of WJP world experts since 2014.
